Toy Shopping Rules

Have you ever had this happen to you?

You are shopping toy for your child, you already have a rough idea on what kind of toy you want to buy.  Most importantly, you want to get a toy your child will love.

When you go to the toy sections of any storeIMG_0897, you are overloaded with all the displays of toys, toys with flashing lights,  toys you can pull, toys that makes noise with push of a button, toys that plays music, toys from popular cartoon show or kid movies, or toys that proclaims to promote learning.

Often, you feel like you have to make a decision blindfolded  and hope you made a best choice for your child.

Here is a blog from a Speech Language Pathologist, Kim Rowe.   She has written a blog  about { Toy Shopping DOs and DON’Ts }.   I wanted to share this blog because her points really hit home with me.   This is the best toy shopping guide for children ages 0- 3 years old.  She lists her rules and goes further into explaining why those rules apply in toy shopping.

These are her 5 main toy rules for toy shopping:

  1. Forget Gender
  2. Think Years, Not Months
  3. Skip: Buttons, Lights, and Sounds
  4. Trash SCLANS (Shapes, Colors, Letters, and Numbers (s) makes it plural)
  5. Remember:  Less Stuff Means Deeper Experience
